Installing New Gates? Here Are Some Reasons to Consider a Cantilever Design

Blog

Selecting new gates for your home can be an uphill task due to the vast array of options in style, design and materials that are available. However, one of the designs that are proving to be a favourite for both commercial and residential properties is the cantilever variety. The term cantilever essential translates into a model that "hangs over". Therefore, in essence, these gates do not need to be mounted on tracks like conventional sliding gates but instead are supported using rails. This type of design is what makes cantilever gates accessible, as it offers a myriad of benefits that you would not be accorded with other gate designs. Here are some of the reasons why you should consider a cantilever design when you are installing new gates.

Cantilever gates are astoundingly space saving

Whether you have a large property or not, adequate lateral space is required when you install swing gates. Since this leeway is not guaranteed for all home, cantilever gates make a great alternative as they can be fitted to any property. To begin with, since the gates slide horizontally, you would not have to worry about lateral space on your property or out on the street for the gates to be manoeuvrable. Secondly, for increased space saving, you can have the gates fitted directly into your pre-existing fence rather than having to make space for them on your barrier line. Therefore, when the gates close, they easily recess into your fencing, which makes them discreet too!

Cantilever gates are incredibly versatile

Another reason why cantilever gates would be perfect for any residence is the exceptional versatility that they offer or a myriad of terrains. Whether your residence's surface is concrete, pavers, grass or even gravel, cantilever gates will operate smoothly as their overhanging nature ensures that they do not have any contact with the ground. This feature is unlike a host of other gate styles, which tend to scrape the ground when being opened and close, which poses the inconvenience of jamming and even the risk of undue damage to the gate. It should also be noted that cantilever gates are highly suitable for residences that are on an incline, as the slope of the ground will not affect how you operate your gate either!

Cantilever gates are astonishingly durable

Perimeter gates are intrinsically designed to last, as they will be exposed to heavy-duty usage. Nevertheless, the consistent exposure to the elements coupled with continual friction with the ground can accelerate the deterioration of the gates. Because cantilever gates are not fitted with any tracks or rollers on the ground, precipitation and snow will not pose any adverse harm to your gates.

How to Choose Security Fencing

If you want a security fence, you probably want to keep something safely inside the fence and/or something (or someone!) outside of it. That’s the easy bit. Choosing the right security fencing for your needs can be a bit more difficult. For example, before you can buy the right fencing, you need to think about all kinds of stuff from the size of the fence to the material it’s made of. In some cases, you may also want to add security extras like anti-climb features. I created this blog to cover the ins and outs of security fencing in more detail. Hopefully, it’ll help you learn more about how to choose the right fencing for your security problem.
