Tips for Breathing Life into a Dull Chain Link Fence

Blog

As useful as chain link fences are in homes and businesses, they can easily feel dull after years of being in place. Indeed, the durability of chain link fencing makes them last for years without requiring any significant maintenance. But you should be aware that this durability becomes one of the main reasons why a chain link fence may feel dull on your property.

The good news is that you don't need to compromise durability for a dull and sometimes boring look. Here are several innovative ways of breathing life into your chain link fence.

1. Use larger spaces between the meshwork

Chain link fences have small holes between the meshwork that act as a security barrier in many different situations. As useful as small holes are, you may consider slightly increasing the size of your meshwork. Slightly larger holes allow more light into your premises, which in turn boosts the mood inside your home or business. In addition, light that reflects on — and passes through — your chain link fencing will prevent the fence itself from appearing dull.

The key is to ensure that you achieve a perfect balance between the larger meshwork and the previously smaller dimensions. Holes that are too large may end up becoming a security risk.

2. Add automatic doors

Another useful idea is to take advantage of technology. Technology makes your fence more exciting to use on a daily basis and also increases the value of your property when you decide to sell. Start by replacing your old fence door with an automatic gate.

An automatic sliding gate adds an extra layer of security while making the fence more exciting and useful to operate. You can also add remote control capabilities to the gate — such that a mobile application on your smartphone can be used to initiate opening/closing as necessary.

3. Reduce the height

While a tall fence is certainly harder for thieves to break through, it may result in your property feeling 'closed off' from the rest of the neighbourhood. Consider installing a lower fence, preferably lower than 1.5metres high. A lower fence provides the perfect balance between privacy and a proper social balance.

4. Add colour

Also, consider adding colour to your chain link fencing. The usual grey/black colour may feel cliché and result in a dull appearance. Powder coat your fence with a bold colour selection such as red, blue or green.

Make sure the colour blends well with other fences in your area or with your overall landscape.

How to Choose Security Fencing

If you want a security fence, you probably want to keep something safely inside the fence and/or something (or someone!) outside of it. That’s the easy bit. Choosing the right security fencing for your needs can be a bit more difficult. For example, before you can buy the right fencing, you need to think about all kinds of stuff from the size of the fence to the material it’s made of. In some cases, you may also want to add security extras like anti-climb features. I created this blog to cover the ins and outs of security fencing in more detail. Hopefully, it’ll help you learn more about how to choose the right fencing for your security problem.
