Why Are Glass Balustrades So Good in Modern Homes?

Blog

If you are designing a new home or renovating an old one, then you may require balustrades in certain parts of the buildings. Typically, they are used to prevent people from falling down a stairwell from a landing. Indeed, they are equally as good when used around pools and to prevent access to the edge of a balcony or a flat roof. If you need balustrades, then there are plenty of materials you could opt for that will do the job. That said, selecting glass may well be the best decision.

Glass balustrades offer several advantages over other materials. What are they?

Architecturally Pleasing

To begin with, glass balustrades look very modern in contemporary buildings. If you are looking for a material with a shiny surface that will reflect the cool lines of an ultra-modern interior, then there is no better choice than glass. Of course, this does not mean that glass balustrades are only suited to modernist styles of architecture. If you have added a balcony to an older property, then you may want glass balustrades for it for the very reason that they have a low visual impact. This is due to the fact that they can be seen through, allowing the view of the architecture to be unimpeded.

Uninterrupted Vistas

There is another plus point worth considering when it comes to the transparency that is inherent with glass balustrades — you can see out through them, too. Although many balustrades are designed to come up to about waist height so you can see over them easily enough, this is not the case when you are sitting down. All too often, balustrades get in the way of the view as soon as you are seated. This is not the case with glass ones which provide no interruptions to your view whatsoever.

Tough and Maintenance-Free

Glass balustrades are made from specially strengthened — or tempered — sections of glazing. Although they might not withstand being hit with a sledgehammer, they are certainly durable enough to prevent falls. You can even lean on them with confidence that they will be up to the job. They require no ongoing maintenance in contrast to wooden balustrades, which will need varnishing to keep them pristine. All you need to do with a balustrade that is formed of glass panels is to wipe it down once in a while — just as you might do with your home's windows.

How to Choose Security Fencing

If you want a security fence, you probably want to keep something safely inside the fence and/or something (or someone!) outside of it. That’s the easy bit. Choosing the right security fencing for your needs can be a bit more difficult. For example, before you can buy the right fencing, you need to think about all kinds of stuff from the size of the fence to the material it’s made of. In some cases, you may also want to add security extras like anti-climb features. I created this blog to cover the ins and outs of security fencing in more detail. Hopefully, it’ll help you learn more about how to choose the right fencing for your security problem.
