Factors to Consider When Choosing a Pet-Friendly Fence in Your Home

Blog

Fences are multi-functional fixtures that can improve the aesthetic appearance of your home's exterior while deterring intruders and animals from coming into your home. They are also used to create property boundaries and prevent pets from wandering outside your compound. As a pet owner, it is paramount to factor your pets into the equation when choosing a fence for your home. Failure to do so can cost you money down the road, or even create problems with your neighbors. How do you ensure that the fence you choose is suitable for your pets? Here are the most important factors that you should consider.

Size of the pets

Pets, especially dogs, are usually available in various sizes, and this should be a determining factor when choosing a fence configuration. If you have a large dog or even a horse or pony in the home, you can have a fence with openings as the animals cannot squeeze in between the spaces and leave. However, if your pets are small cats and puppies, you need to consider a fence that will be able to contain them within the property. Openings if any, should be small and closely spaced. Assess the fence configuration that you want and ascertain that it can contain the pets within the property.

Temperament of the pets

Pets can be calm, relaxed, and well-behaved, or playful, explorative, and easily agitated. A pet that's well-behaved may not require you to have a strong and tall fence to contain it. In this case, you can explore invisible or short fences with moderately sturdy materials. However, if your pet is strong, easily agitated, explorative, and even attempts to jump over fences, you will have to install a strong and tall fence. If you don't, your pet can easily take down a portion of your fence, and you will have to undertake expensive repairs or replace the entire fence.

Budget considerations

When purchasing a fence, homeowners usually think about style, aesthetics, and functionality. Sometimes, the ideal fence that matches your style, complements your home's exterior, and contains your pets within the property may be beyond your budget. In this case, it is essential to put the safety of your pets above any other considerations. This may require you to compromise a little regarding style and aesthetics as you work within your budget. However, you can use paint and finishes to come up with an attractive and affordable pet-friendly fence.

It is your duty to take care of your pets and ensure that they remain on your property and do not act as a nuisance to the community. Work with a fencing contractor to make sure that you get a fence that works for your pets and meets your property needs as well.

How to Choose Security Fencing

Choosing the right security fencing for your needs can be a bit more difficult. For example, before you can buy the right fencing, you need to think about all kinds of stuff from the size of the fence to the material it’s made of. In some cases, you may also want to add security extras like anti-climb features. I created this blog to cover the ins and outs of security fencing in more detail. Hopefully, it’ll help you learn more about how to choose the right fencing for your security problem.
